The summer of 2004 was called ‘the mother of all sporting summers’ with a very broad range of sporting events broadcasted by the public network. In order not to influence the existing positioning of the different channels ‘één’ and ‘Canvas/Ketnet’, the VRT (Flemish radio and television) decided to establish a temporary and specific sports channel brand.
The name Sporza had already been devised by VRT, but was withheld from the final short list. Remarkable was asked to assist in the name creation process, and convinced VRT of the communications potential of the Sporza suggestion. And with success, because Sporza is now certainly no longer a temporary project, but is alive and kicking, broadcasting and reporting sporting events on TV, radio and the internet.Back to overview
